Do Your Part

Recently I was asked how I get my kids to do chores.  Well, it is simple.  They are a part of a family and everyone in our family has something to do.  My husband has his 'chores,' I have my 'chores' and my kids each have their own chores.  We each have a different job to do but as part of a family we all have a job.  That is how it is in the church.  We are part of a church family and everyone in the church has something to do.  But everyone can not be the pastor.  Everyone can not be the worship leader.  Everyone can not sit back and do nothing.  Just think if no one preached, lead worship, cleaned the building, ran the nursery or so on.  What would get accomplished?  Nothing!

God gave each individual a gift.  Maybe yours is singing or playing an instrument so you are part of the worship team.  Maybe your gift is hospitality and you can welcome people into the church and connect with them.  If you are gifted in organization, you can clean the church and keep it orderly.  You are gentle and good with children so you work in the nursery.  Maybe you are a great cook and can make a meal for a sick or new family.  God gave us all a gift and our gifts are not the same.

Think of a football team.  Each position is important to play the game.  But not everyone can be a quarterback.  Not everyone can be the head coach.  They need every position in working function to properly play the game.  Now think of your body.  Your eyes have a job, your lungs have a different job, and your ears have yet another different job.  But we need all of our body parts and organs to function and to live.

Our churches need us.  They need each of us to step up and use our different jobs.  If you do not yet know what your gift is, pray and ask God for His direction.  He will show you what you are called to do.  Let God lead you and talk to your pastor.  Ask your pastor how you can help and where there is a need.  Let's step up and say YES to God!

Remember, we are all called to something but no one is called to sit back and do nothing.

  1. Amen! We are the body and we all need to do our part in order to function properly.

  2. No 'body' can function if all the parts were 'eyes!' If there were no ears, who would hear? If there were no legs, how would the body walk? Each part of a body is vital to the functionality of that body! Thank God that we are not all the same and that we are all a vital part of the unit!
