Have you ever felt like the world is crashing down on you? Like you are drowning or just can't breath anymore? I know all of us have probably felt like that a time or two in our lives. Financial debt is so bad that we are sinking, a marriage that is falling apart, family problems, health problems, so many things in life can go wrong and cause us to feel like we just can not take another moment. We panic. We take our eyes of Christ. We sink.
"When the disciples saw Him walking on the lake, they were terrified. 'It's a ghost,' they said and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them, 'Take courage! It is I, Don't be afraid.' 'Lord, if it is You,' Peter replied, 'tell me to come to You on the water.' 'Come,' He said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, 'Lord save me!' Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him. 'You of little faith,' He said, 'why did you doubt?'" Matthew 14:26-31
Sickness comes and threatens your health and even your life. Your eyes become fixed on worry and doubt. You sink.
After another big fight with your spouse, they walk out the door. Your eyes become fixed on the worry that they may not come back. You sink.
Everyone is your department is being laid off this week. Your eyes become fixed on the possibility that you are next. You sink.
When we take our eyes off Christ, even for a brief moment, we sink just like Peter. When we let that wind cause us doubt instead of keeping our eyes on the Sure One we sink. If Peter would have only kept his eyes on Christ he could have walked all the way out to Christ and back to the boat again. But he panicked and lost his focus.
Friends when debt, health issues, relationship struggles or even depression comes about, keep your eyes fixed solid on Jesus and let Him carry you the whole way through.

So true, if we could just keep our eyes on Jesus He will guide us through our troubles.
ReplyDeleteI've come to realize that when I'm feeling overwhelmed, anxious, angry, etc, it's because I have taken my eyes off Jesus. I want Jesus to be the focus of my vision.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what Lisa said, I do the same thing. When I start to drown in my insecurity and fear I've lost sight of Him. It happens a lot actually and it reminds me that not for even a second can I move my gaze from Him.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless you!
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what happens when we take our eyes off Jesus! Thank you for this encouragement!
