Seeing In The Dark

I do not like driving.  I don't think I ever truly enjoyed it.  However, I do love being in the car and going for drives...as long as I am a passenger.  Driving at night is even worse.  I do not have very good night vision and I greatly despise (as my son says) not being able to see.  When I am driving at night, I can not see very well at all.  There can be a few street lights above and my head lights shining on the road in front of me and it isn't too terribly bad, then suddenly a car from the other direction comes my way and I am completely blinded.  It terrifies me.  I also have a fear (I guess I should pray about fear, huh?) of an innocent deer running out and not seeing it in time to stop.  I avoid driving in the dark when possible.

When I am sleeping, I want it to be dark.  Yet until I actually go to bed and as soon as I am up, I want it light.  I am not afraid of the dark, but I do not like not being able to see.  I have almost a constant bruise in the exact same spot on my shin from running into the foot of my bed each night.  I just do not like not being able to see.

That is how it is when we go through life without God.  We will be blinded when things come our way.  We are sure to stumble with obstacles blocking our path.  Yes, even in the light of day I still have the chance of a deer or squirrel running out in front of me.  And I am known to be a little clumsy from time to time, even in the light.  God never promised that things will always be easy.  As a matter of fact, James 1:2 says, "Consider it pure joy whenever you face trials of many kinds..."  It does not say if you face trials, but when you face trials.

"Your Word is a lamp until my feet and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105

When we are living with God and following His Word and His way, it is like having a flash light in the dark or driving in the daylight.  He is our light.  He is the Light.  We wouldn't drive at night without headlights, but living this life without Christ is even more dangerous.  Let God be your light today.  Let Him guide your way.

Sweet Blessings~

  1. Great post sweet sister, I want God to be the director of my steps, all day every day! p.s. I don't like driving in the dark either, just this morning i caught a deer in my headlights and about freaked out because where there's one there's more but thankfully we all made it to our destinations safely. Have a blessed day *hugs

  2. If everyone could just understand about the Light, it would be wonderful. Your comparison was a really good one. We need the Light no matter what we are doing. Thank you for a great post.

  4. What a great analogy! It's foolish to stumble around in the dark when we have access to The Light.

  5. Wonderful analogy Jenifer! It's amazing how much clearer everything becomes when we focus on hearing His Voice and bathing in His Light. Have a Blessed Day!

  6. It's embarassing, but I am actually afraid of the dark. Especially in my house when my husband is out of town (like last night). I don't sleep at all. I hate this fear especially when I know I have access to His light! I need His strength for my weakness in this area!! Love this post... it hurts, but it's what I needed to hear.

  7. I am also afraid of the dark...I've slept with a light of some sort all my life. It's a hard thing to give up that fear to the Lord, but that is what He calls us to do...

  8. Heidi and Allison, I do not like the dark. In my book, it is good for sleeping and that is all. But I know that God is my Light. I want Him to light my path in every aspect of my lift. Blessings to you both.

  9. I can relate the the night blindness totally. We have the moon come in the windows at night... so that is not so bad. Like the way you related darkness with how we relate to God. Nice article.
