I expected my husband to fulfill me in every way. So anytime we had a disagreement I was left feeling empty and alone.
I expected my kids to fulfill me. Whenever they acted up or even went to bed for the night I was left feeling empty and alone.
I expected my hobbies to fulfill me. If that cake did not turn out just right or when the book was finished, I was left feeling empty and alone.
I expected my ministries to fulfill me. If an activity did not turn out the way I planned or things were not going just so, I was left feeling empty and alone.
Do you see a pattern there? When things did not go right, I was left feeling empty and alone every single time. The truth is, in our marriages we will have disagreements from time to time. Even the best marriages do. We will not agree on every single little detail of life with our spouse. Our children will act up occasionally. Things will not always go as we hoped. And if we are seeking fulfillment in these things, we will be left feeling empty and alone every time.
"Find, rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him." Psalm 62:5
We need to seek fulfillment in Christ alone. He is the one and only who can completely and 100% fulfill us every single time. Our husbands/wives, children, friends, careers, ministries, hobbies, even life, will let us down. God will never let us down.
Check out Mother's on a Mission. I started this post a few days ago but had not yet finished it. On Monday I went to M.O.M and my fellow bloggy friend, Heidi, posted the same thing. I love when that happens! God must really be doing something. Please take the time to check out her post.
Let's seek fulfillment in the only true source...Christ.
Sweet Blessings~
So true...only He can fulfill ALL of our needs. No one else can do that! It took me awhile to figure that out and a lot of misery on my husband's part, but I get it now and am so glad that I do. I need reminded every now and then though
ReplyDeletePeople and things will ALWAYS leave us feeling empty and miserable. As Allison said, only GOD can fill all of our needs! Thank you for reminding me.
ReplyDeleteExcellent words of wisdom. Thanks for the great reminder.

When we think we can find something besides God to fulfill our needs we are mistaken. Only God can give us complete fulfillment. Thanks for a great post.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post Jenifer.
ReplyDeleteWe're all guilty of looking for fulfillment in earthly places now and again, but of course only in God's Hands can we find true happiness and completion.
Have a Blessed Day!
Only God can fulfill us. And He never leaves us disappointed. But will fail us, but my God will never fail. Amen!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I have been faced with many things that we disagree on... our personalities are so different and when life gets busy and stressful, as it has for us, the disagreements seem to float to the surface in abundance. We are both learning to accept, let go, be quiet and turn to God. We've been pressed into a place where finding our fulfillment from God is the only way. It helps me to know that my husband deeply desires to fulfill my every need, but how could he, really. Bless his heart, hard as he may try in his humanness and in his polar opposite personality he's bound to disappoint me simply because he sees things so differently than I do. Only God sees each of us individually, knows what we desire and and what we "really" need. Love it Jenifer, thanks for linking back to me! Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great reminder to seek fulfillment in GOD ALONE!! Only he can TRULY SATISFY! Thanks for sharing, Jenifer!
