Psalm 23
"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are will me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." Psalm 23
Today I was flipping through the Psalms and this just really blessed me. "The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want." It doesn't say that I will have a fancy car or brand name clothes and have all I could ever want therefore leaving me not to want. It says I shall not want. I will not want because God is all need and all I want. He is my everything. Without Him this life is nothing. He supplies all of my needs.
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for you are with me." Oh what sweet peace that brings. No matter where I am or what I am doing God is there. When I hear a strange noise in the night, God is there. When my husband is running late from work and not answering his phone, God is there. When my kids are sick, God is there. I do not have to fear anything because God is always by my side.
I just wanted to share this beautiful psalm with you today. I encourage you to take a moment to pull out your Bible and read it again or go back to the top and reread. I pray it touches you and it touched me.
Sweet Blessings~

I love that passage too! It is so encouraging to me to know that He is there no matter what I may face. With Him by my side I don't have to be afraid of anything. I can just reach up, grab on, and hold onto Him!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, I love that Psalm. Thank you for sharing your reflections on it.
ReplyDeleteHi Jenifer,
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely Psalm. Lately that is just where my thoughts have been. Jesus is ALL I need. Even when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, HE is all I need. I know that to be true from experience, He is all I NEED.
Thank you, dear friend, for the reminder today.
Hugs, Cindy
I love to take the Scriptures apart like that...not changing them, but better understanding each phrase. Psalm 23 has long been associated with death and funerals...but it is oh so much more! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeletewonderful post.Hopping over to say Hello and HAPPY Thursday.

The Lord is my Shepherd, my everything, I shall not want. Amen! I recently did a little study on Psalm 23. What a great passage!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm trying to do. Relinquish my fears. He's faithful!

This Psalm always brings such strength and comfort to me Jenifer. It's all about trust, giving our whole selves to Him and knowing that He's always with us.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post, and Have a Blessed Day!
God is there giving us everything we need. And sometimes, we think we need alot more than we actually do. This blesses me so much. When everything falls apart, God is there making us lie down by green pastures and soaking up the rays of grace. Great post!!
ReplyDeleteThis really spoke to me--thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI also love this Psalm, His promises of protection and comfort are so clear. Thank you Lisa!
ReplyDeleteI’ll never forget my 6th grade teacher, Ms. Edgerton, who required us to memorize the Twenty-third Psalm. I’ll always remember her words: “Class, I expect all of you to commit this particular Scripture to memory because, trust me; you are going to need it down the road one day. Psalm 23 is so foundational that you can’t afford to go through life without knowing the Lord as your Shepherd.” No school standard can compare with this knowledge.
ReplyDeleteMy teacher was absolutely right. I did need to hide this in my heart. And I'm so grateful that He is my Shepherd. He meets all of my needs. He leads me every step of the way.
