Have you ever thought about tithing in the sense of time? If you think about it, God has given us twenty-four hours in our day. That would mean giving God two hours and forty minutes. Now, I do not believe God is sitting on His throne with a stopwatch timing us. But I do believe, time is a gift, His gift to us. How can we not tithe that?
When I first made a commitment to spend time with God, I only set aside twenty minutes of my day. Then, the more I did it, the more in love I fell with God and the more time I gave Him. I don't know that I spend two hours and forty minutes every day, actually I probably don't come close. And I don't think that this time needs to be all at once. I have my quiet time in the mornings. A couple days a week I set aside time to prepare for my Bible study. I spend time praying and working on memory verses with my kids each night. I spend time listening to worship music and praising God.
If you think about all of the wonderful ways we have to worship, getting two hours and forty minutes should be easy and we should desire to do it. Friends, if you are not spending time with God each day, I encourage you to start. Think you do not have time? My mom always said, if you can't live on 90% of your pay, you can't live on 100%. Well, if you can't live on twenty-one hours and twenty minutes, you can't live on twenty-four hours. If you don't have time for God, re-examine your priorities. God desires fellowship with us and we should desire fellowship with Him.
Sweet Blessings~
You certainly know how to get someone's attention. God deserves at least ten percent of our time, but He really should get more. Look at what all He has done for us, ten percent isn't enough. Thanks for the reminder. A great post.
ReplyDeleteYou know what, I've never thought of tithing my time to Him but that's such a great way of putting it. I spend time with God but I sure don't give Him 10%. Thank you for giving me something to contemplate, I WILL be working on this.
ReplyDeleteGod has blessed me with the gift of time and I want to use it for His glory.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you put this! He certainly deserves more time than I am giving Him... I know I'll never give Him exactly what He deserves, but I can always be working on giving Him more. Thank you for this conviction and encouragement... it's very timely for me :) Blessings!
ReplyDeleteSo true...never thought of it that way! Gave me a big swift kick and a desire to give Him as much time as I can. After all, He is the reason I am here.
ReplyDeleteJenifer, thank you for the smile. When I first read this, all I could picture in my head is Jesus holding a stopwatch.. LOL!
ReplyDeleteYour point is exceptionally well made. For all God has Blessed us with, dedicating time to spend with him each day in some form of worship is something we all need to do. Thank you for the reminder!
Have a Blessed Day!
I love Phil's comment! As a Children's Pastor, I, too, envisioned the same thing! LOL I totally believe that God deserves 10% of our day. And, no, I don't believe we need to sit for 2 hrs and 40 min at a time...there are MANY ways to worship the Master...serving others is a great way to do it! I'm glad you posted this.
