Holes or Whole?

Holes.  They hold us back.  They can be crippling.  We try to fill them with so many things.  And sometimes we are not filling them with "bad" things.  Maybe we dive into a ministry trying to fill a hole.  Maybe we commit to charity work trying to fill a hole.  No, not all fillers are bad.  But they are not truly filling us.

Fillers make me think of the old child's toy where you put different shapes inside the holes.  The things we use to attempt to fill the hole in our heart is like using the star shape to fill the circle.  It just doesn't work.  The circle hole was made for the circle, not the star.

Our heart was made to be full of Christ, not drugs, tv, alcohol, partying, ministry or even religion.  It was meant for Christ.

In her new book {W}hole, Lisa Whittle says, "The presence of God -not how well we can perform duties of religion- is what creates within us a spiritual vibrancy."  Have you ever seen someone who just has a glow or vibrancy about them?  Having those "holes" full of Christ gives that glow of true peace and true joy.  Only Christ can give that.  Only Christ can fill us.

Lisa also says, "God's design has always been that we would need Him to do that which we cannot."  We cannot fill the holes in our lives.  It is impossible to put that star where the circle goes.  God designed us to need Him.  That was His plan.

Friends, what are you using to fill the holes in your life?  Turn to Christ.  He is The Hole Filler.  The only one to make you truly whole.

Sweet Blessings~

  1. Very good analogy, Jenifer! I will never look at one of those baby shape sorters the same way again! I love everyday visuals like this.

  2. Only Christ can make us whole. Everything else just leaves us with holes in our heart. Great post, Jenifer!

  9. It's amazing how quickly we try to fill our holes, too. We get rid of one filler and turn to anther so fast. Looks like a great book!

  10. Many years back Jenifer (ok, yes, I'm old... lol), I used to try to fill those gaps in my life with so many things; work, alcohol, etc. But as things of this world so commonly are, I found them temporary and unsatisfying. Thankfully, Jesus found those holes in my heart, and filled them with His presence, and my life hasn't been the same since.

    Have a Blessed Day!

  11. That toy is such a great comparison. We try to feel that hole with so many things that just wont fulfill us. We will always be left feeling discontent if we seek to fill that hole with anything else but Him!

  12. very true... but blessed are the holes... because without a time of holes...we would never know what it is to be filled up.
The times we had holes make us aware we crave something bigger.

  13. Hi Jenifer - you are correct, some of the things we try to fill the holes with aren't necessarily bad, but nothing can fill us like God - no one can take His place.

    Great post.

  14. I spent a lot of my life trying to cram stars into the holes in my life. I'm so glad He fills my holes now and that I shine brightly because of it. Sounds like a wonderful book!

  15. I love that post! It amazes me how often we try to fill the holes in us with something that was never meant to go there. Jesus truly is the only way to fill those holes. Thanks for this truly thought provoking post!

    Blessings,
    Megan

  16. Fill me up Lord, there is plenty of room for more of you! No holes to leak anything out - - however I am willing to share and that is what we must do.
