And I Knew He Was The One...

This year my best friend, Jeremy, and I will celebrate 15 years of marriage. I cannot even believe I am saying that. In some ways it feels like we have been together forever (in a good way) and in some ways if feels like yesterday. In only two short years I will have been a wife the same number of years I was not a wife, which is a weird feeling. Yes, I know I just told you my age and yes, I know I just told you that I was married at only seventeen.

We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.  2 Thessalonians 1:3

I came across the above verse today and it really went along with something that has been on my heart this week.  My church is a newer church having just planted last summer.  We have quite a few new attendees, we can them family, that are new believers.  I was thinking about them a lot this week.  It is so beautiful to watch them grow in their knowledge of God and in their faith.  Watching their faith and excitement in God helps to grow my faith and excitement.

New believers are like someone in a new dating relationship.  They are in love and excited.  Somewhere along the way, just like in dating, that passion subsides just a bit.  We still are in love with God but the fire dies out just a bit.  I don't want to be like that.  I want to be passionate, deeply in love and wildly on fire for my Savior at all times.  I want my faith and love in Christ to grow each and every day, not just in the beginning.

If you have been saved for a long period of time, has your excitement of Christ become stale?  Has your joy dwindled?  What are you doing different than you were doing in the beginning?  Often people diet and exercise and once they see results, they slow down or stop, then the weight comes back.  They have to find out what it is they did to lose the weight in the beginning.  We have to get back to the diet of a new believer.  The time spent in God's presence, the time sharing Him with others, the joy we found in reading His Word.

Where is your walk with Him today?  Are you on fire for Him or do you need to get back to the beginning?

  2. Happy Anniversary! I found your blog from the Thought Provoking Thursday list. You are #32 and I'm #33.

It's true that we have to work to keep our relationship with God fresh and alive, much like other relationships in our lives. During a "dry spell" I will get a new devo book or new worship CD and keep at it. :-)

Thanks for hosting the giveaway. I'd love to get something from Dayspring.

  6. I never thought comparing my relationship with God to dating... Nice! Though I still can't relate to the "dating" thing since I kissed dating goodbye or rather, never really dated anyone... at all!

Made me reassessed my relationship with God.. Thanks...

Happy anniversary to you... Knowing your love story and how God has put you together reaffirms that God has someone for me too.. hehehehe May the Lord continue to protect your marriage. Just continue to keep God at the center of your relationship!

  7. Happy anniversary! I love the analogy. I have seen many times "seasoned" Christians lose their passion for Christ. (It happened to me.)I want to keep those fires burning!
