An Open Letter To My Children

To my four blessings from Heaven,

You are loved. You are loved more than you can begin to imagine. Your dad and I love you with every ounce of our being and every breath we take. And even more importantly, God loves you. You don't have to change to earn God's love, or ours. You don't have to do anything or say anything. We simply love you exactly the way you are, no matter what.

Human nature tells us that we need to be liked and accepted by others. And it is so easy to get wrapped up in the popularity game. Believe me, I've been there. Several times, in fact.

An open letter to my children.

We want as many friends as we can possibly get. Then we wonder what is wrong with us when someone else has more friends. We post to social media and constantly check the post to see how many likes we have and who commented. We crave high numbers on that little red heart next to our picture or thumbs on our status. Then we are hurt when the results are not what we hoped for. We compare ourselves to friends, and even strangers, who have more "friends," followers, likes and comments.

This cry for acceptance is a viscous cycle, pulling our focus to a place of negativity and self doubt. We can't be confident in who we are, or Whose we are, when we are concerned over what is wrong with us.

Dear kids, your worth is not wrapped up in how many followers you have on social media. Nor is it wrapped up in how many likes or comments your posts and pictures get. None of that truly matters. You might think it does now, but I promise you, like the wind, it is fleeting.

Find your worth in the One who created you inside of me. The One who knit you together in my womb. The One who loves you so much He sent His Son to be broken just for you.

For You created my inmost being;
You knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise You because I am fearfully
and wonderfully made;
Your works are wonderful;
I know that full well.
Psalm 139:13-14

Don't worry about gaining followers, likes, or internet friends. Instead, focus on God. Build your relationship with Him. That is a lasting, eternal relationship.

Remember, sweet ones, you are loved.
