As parents we watch our kids learn and grow and change. It's such a beautiful thing to watch. We see their chubby baby legs toddle along as they learn to walk. Then we see those same legs walking into their first day of school. Then those legs walk into their first job. Then the dreaded day comes as they walk into college.
In their new book, She Is Yours, Jonathan and Wynter Pitts pierce my heart when they say,
My third thought was a bit more reflective, and it quickly aroused some anxiety. "My girls are growing so fast physically and emotionally, but are they growing spiritually."I shared last week how after dropping my oldest off at college, I ran through her life thinking of all the things I taught her in her 19 years. Wondering what I missed, I pray fervently for God to fill in the gaps.
As parents, we strive to make sure our kids know all they need to know. We teach them their numbers and letters, how to sweep a floor and feed the family pet, how to drive a car and how to balance a checkbook. But how often are we teaching them how to pray, study God's Word and live for Him? While we make sure they become safe drivers, are we making sure they become solid Christians?
We need to remember that first and foremost, our children belong to God. He has gifted them to us for a season to teach. If we fail to teach them to live fully and intentionally for God, we fail to do what God has called us to do.
In She Is Yours, Jonathan and Wynter teach us how to lead our children. They share their real life experiences and practical ways to help raise your child in the way of the Lord. Each chapter ends with a prayer, and each prayer ends with "She is Yours, and I trust You with her." Words that are medicine to this mama's heart as I pray for my baby away at school.
While Jonathan and Wynter's book is written about daughters, since they have 4 beautiful daughters, every single thing in this book can be applied to your sons as well. Every parent, whether a parent of all girls, parent of all boys, or parent to boys and girls, should read and reread this book. I read a lot of books and I can honestly say this is one of the best, if not the best, parenting book I've ever read.
Reading She Is Yours is going to make you laugh, cry, but most important, it will change the way you parent forever. Pick up a copy She Is Yours today!
