Setting a New Year's Resolution has never worked for me. Just saying this is what I want to do, only gets me to about mid-January. However, about eight years ago I found something that actually works!
The Powersheets Goal Planner from Cultivate What Matters has been an incredible tool for me. It has helped me with big picture goals and every day habits. This system actually works!
The Powersheets Goal Planner walks you through a series of prep work to help you learn what matters to you, what fires you up, where you want to be at the end of the year, and where you want to be when you're 80. You learn so much about yourself through these pages!
Then, Powersheets helps you to set goals based on what matters the most to you. But even more important, Powersheets helps you to set action steps -daily, weekly, and monthly- to help you reach these goals. Then, it helps you to celebrate little by little progress. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I know this works so I am a Powersheets user for life!
My Powersheets goals are often the same from year to year because these are areas of my life that are the most important to me and I want to continue to grow and cultivate them. The six areas I am working on is my faith, marriage, family, finances, ministries, and health.
Faith - This goal goes along with my One Word, Abide.
- continue my daily quiet time
- read through the entire Bible
- do in depth Bible study
- journal, using the Quiet Time Companion
- use Write the Word journals each evening
- cultivate a passionate prayer life
- work on Scripture memory
Marriage
- pray daily for my husband
- quality time weekly
- serve my husband with joy
- love him well
- communicate clearly
- phone down, eyes up
Family
- pray daily for our kids and grandsons
- get together with all of our adult kids at least once a month
- make birthdays special, we have a fun plan for this that we are excited for
- when together, phone down, eyes up
- pray daily for extended family
Finance
- tithe regularly
- pay bills regularly
- watch needless spending
- build savings
Ministry
- pray over ministries
- keep up with ministries at church
- keep up with blog ministries
- write
Health
- drink at least 80 ounces of water a day
- walk at least 9,000 steps a day
- take vitamins and prescriptions every day
- go on a walk at least twice a week
- less sugar
- learn to make more foods from scratch, even though I make a lot of homemade food, I want to really learn how to make more of our foods from scratch (different breads, ranch dressing, pasta sauces, etc)
With each of these goals I have daily, weekly, and monthly action items to work towards and I can keep track of those on the Tending List in my Powersheets Goal Planner. Each afternoon I mark of my daily habits if I have completed them. Every Tuesday, for Tending List Tuesday, I go through my weekly habits and mark those off and then I take a look at my monthly habits. This helps me see how I am coming and allows me to celebrate small steps, and shows me where I need to get busy working.
The Powersheets system is like having a life coach in my pocket at all times cheering me on for progress made and encouraging me to keep going.
